Today was the monthly staff meeting at my school–it always begins with 15 or so principal-free minutes so union business gets discussed.
This afternoon, the principal walked in, bedraggled, with a huge glaring bandage on the right side of her neck. “It’s been a hard day”, she began. I don’t remember who asked the obvious question: I only remember her answer and a follow up.
“I was… well, kind of attacked by one of the kindergarteners.”
A look of equal parts trepidation and mischief passes over the third grade teacher’s face.
“Was it my son?”
